Estartit is a small coastal town in the province of Girona, located in the heart of the Costa Brava. It's an ideal destination to enjoy nature, the sea, and Catalan culture. If you only have one day to visit, we propose a plan for you to make the most of your stay.
Morning: Visit the Medes Islands
The Medes Islands are an archipelago formed by seven islets off the coast of Estartit, which constitute a comprehensive natural reserve of great ecological value. They are one of the best places in the Mediterranean for diving, as they host a wide variety of marine species, such as algae, corals, fish, crabs, starfish, and even dolphins or turtles.
Book a trip to the Medes Islands
To visit the Medes Islands, you can book a boat excursion from the port of Estartit, which will take you around the perimeter of the islets and allow you to see the seabed through glass-bottomed boats. You can also opt for a kayak or paddle surfing outing, which will give you more freedom to approach the coves and caves of the islands. And if you are a diving enthusiast, you can't miss the opportunity to dive into its crystal-clear waters and discover its secrets.

Midday: Enjoy Local Gastronomy
After the morning activity, you're sure to be hungry. Estartit has a wide gastronomic offer based on sea and land products. You can taste typical dishes such as escudella i carn d'olla (meat and vegetable stew), suquet de peix (fish stew with potatoes), arroz a la cazuela (rice with meat and seafood), or fideuà (noodles with fish and seafood). You can also try tapas such as anchovies, mussels, croquettes, or bravas. And to drink, nothing better than a local white or rosé wine, or a refreshing beer.
We invite you to come and try the dishes and menus at Fancy. Our variety of options is very wide, from children's dishes to a selection of the most popular tapas, pizzas, the best of fish and seafood, to vegetarian dishes. You can enjoy the good weather on our terrace while resting and regaining strength to continue walking around Estartit.
We recommend that you make a reservation to ensure you have a table; we open every day at noon and in the evening!
Afternoon: Explore the Natural Environment
Estartit is surrounded by a privileged natural environment worth knowing. You can choose from several options to explore it:
- The beach: Estartit has a fine golden sandy beach, about 5 km long, which stretches from the mouth of the Ter River to the tip of Molinera. It's an ideal beach to relax in the sun, swim in the sea, or practice water sports such as windsurfing or kitesurfing. It also has an area for dogs and another for nudists.
- The Montgrí: The Montgrí is a mountainous massif that separates the Alt and Baix Empordà regions. It has a maximum height of 308 m and is crowned by a medieval castle from the 13th century. From Estartit, you can access several hiking or cycling routes that will take you to discover its rocky landscapes, its Mediterranean forests, and its panoramic views.
- The Aiguamolls del Baix Ter: The Aiguamolls del Baix Ter are wetlands located between Estartit and Torroella de Montgrí, which are part of the Montgrí Natural Park.
